Emperor Ashoka was once going somewhere with his ministers, when he saw a beggar on the way. The emperor got down from his chariot and went to that beggar and bowed his head with great humility in front of him and then went ahead. His ministers were surprised to see this. One of those ministers did not like it and said to the emperor, Maharaj! You are such a great emperor, then why did you bow your head in front of a beggar? This is against your pride. On this the emperor said that I will give you the answer tomorrow.
The next day the emperor called the minister to him and put three heads in a bag and gave them to the minister and asked him to sell them. In this bag there was one head of a buffalo, one of a goat and one of a human. The minister tried the whole day but no one was ready to buy the head. The minister came and told this to the emperor and said that no one is ready to buy them. On this the emperor ordered to distribute all these heads for free. The minister set out to distribute these heads but could only distribute buffalo and goat heads. Because no one was ready to take the man's head. The minister came back to the emperor regarding this and told him the whole thing. Hearing this, the emperor smiled and said.
This is the answer to your yesterday's question. Think for yourself why hesitate to bow down the head which is of no use, which is of no use, in front of a gentleman. He said, respect increases by giving respect and the difference between rich-poor, high-low destroys the basic sense of respect. The emperor said, I want to explain to you that the pride of your reputation cannot get you respect. While giving love and respect to someone, one gets love and respect in return.
This motivational incident teaches us that even if we are on any prestigious position, we should not be proud. Also everyone should be given respect and love. Bowing head in front of someone does not reduce dignity but gives respect and love.
