A poignant tale of hardship, love, failure, despair so deep you just want to die, and the ultimate triumph of a "never-say-die" attitude.

Set in 1980s Kerala, the book opens in a mental hospital where the novel's protagonist and narrator, Ankita Sharma, a 21-year-old beautiful and smart young woman, is raised against her will by her parents.

The story of how she got there begins with a flashback of her exchange of letters with Vaibhav, her childhood friend and her love interest, studying at IIT Delhi.

Ankita has just entered St. Agnes College for Girls, where she is not only an excellent student, acing her examinations and excelling in her extra-curricular activities, but she is also an all-rounder whom everyone adores.

She is also quickly elected as the art club secretary, and she makes a lot of friends very quickly. These thrilling days of her life tower over her love for Vaibhav and another college boy Abhishek, take her place in his heart and eventually they start going out.

Three years later, Ankita gets admission in her dream MBA college in Bombay and all goes well when her family too has to move to Bombay as a result of her father's promotion. Ankita breaks up with Abhishek and unable to face the separation, he gets drunk and commits suicide.

While in Bombay, even though she looks normal , depression slowly consumes her and overpowered by it, she tries to commit suicide. She is then diagnosed with "Bipolar disorder" and admitted to a mental hospital and the flashback ends.

The book's epilogue states that she has been able to overcome her depression and, fifteen years later, has earned six degrees and is happily married.

Preeti has been successful in keeping her point and has conveyed her message beautifully to the reader. We often ignore and underestimate the love, be it from our parents, friends, partner or anyone else, but the real value is understood only when one loses that love like Ankita had when She had lost Abhi. Regrets of not promising to keep in touch, not calming her down when she was upset, not reciprocating your love also played a part in pushing her over the edge.

The characterization is so relatable that everyone will relate to them. The character of Ankita epitomizes today's modern woman who is smart, intelligent, confident and confident about her future plans.

Abhi's character left me heartbroken. He was so deep in love!! A good friend, an understanding and caring person gave Ankita a direction, supported her and most importantly guided her.
